THE Hindu festival Diwali is being commemorated today, and it's sure to be another beautiful celebration.
The annual celebration is filled with beautiful lights and colours, but what do you say to someone when you want to wish them a Happy Diwali?
The festival of light starts on November 5 in 2018
What is Diwali?
Diwali is a festival, associated with Hinduism and it lasts five days.
It takes place between October and November every year in the northern hemisphere.
And in the southern hemisphere it takes place in Spring.
It takes place on the day before the new moon in the month of Ashwin, which is the seventh month of the lunisolar Hindu calendar.
The festival's purpose is to celebrate Rama-chandra, who is the seventh incarnation of the god Vishnu.
It celebrates the "victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance".
The celebrations began on October 5 with Dhanteras.
Diwali is a week long celebration
October 26 is Choti Diwali, Naraka Chaturdasi which is a day of preparing feast and sweet treats.
October 27 is known as Amavasya when feasts are shared, temples are visited and family are greeted.
Annakut, Padwa and Govardhan Puja is on day four, and this celebrates the bond between husband and wife.
And on October 29, the final celebration is called Bhai Duj which celebrates the bond between siblings.
What are some Diwali greetings to share?
It can be as simple as saying 'Happy Diwali', but there are a few other longer greetings you can say if you wish to.
