American opera singer and multiple Grammy award winner, Jessye Norman has given up the ghost at the age of 74. She reportedly died on Monday, September 30.
According to her family, Norman died in New York City hospital after battling with septic shock and multiple organ failure related to complications from a spinal cord injury in 2015.
The New York Metropolitan Opera, in a statement released described Norman as "one of the great sopranos of the past half-century. Norman sang more than 80 performances with the company, dazzling audiences with her beautiful tone, extraordinary power, and musical sensitivity".
"One of the great sopranos of the past half-century," the Met added.
The late opera star won four Grammy awards and bagged a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy in 2006.
