A First Class Monarch in the country and South-West King from Osun State, the Oluwo of Iwo Empire, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to emulate China by improving on Nigeria’s industrialisation to boost the country’s economy.

The monarch made this plea in Abuja on Sunday while delivering a lecture, titled: “Impacting the society, a call from God” at 2016 Nigeria Excellent Awards.

Oba Adewale differed in his opinion, saying not only agriculture can help Nigeria in reviving Nigeria’s economy or on diversification of economy but noted that industrialising the country will go a long way in bringing out the country from present economic recession.

He said, “I am not saying agriculture cannot help our country but if all of us embark on agriculture, what about lawyers, engineers, doctors and others. Who will take care of people that might fall sick? Who will make or process the food gotten from the farm?

“Things work hand-in-hand. We complement ourselves. It is through industrialisation that our country can succeed and reach other great nations’ standard.

“Agriculture is fine, it brings money for government, it brings money to some farmers but can Agriculture provide enough jobs to our teeming youths?

“In Nigeria, we keep hammering on Agriculture but we don’t have that land. Let’s take Lagos for example, a small piece of land with an industry in Ogba and Awolowo avenue can employ good number of Nigerians.

“If that piece of land is used for farming, it is only few people it can accommodate. How many professionals can that farm employ? Where are doctors, lawyers, engineers going to get jobs if we all embark on farming practices?

“The only solution to our problems in Nigeria is industrialisation. China has least rate of unemployment because the country is industrialised. Most of these phones we are using here are made by Chinese youths who have been empowered through industrialisation.

“I will urge President Buhari’s administration to look into industrialization of this country and see it as a solution to present economic woes.”

Earlier, the National Coordinator and presenter at NTA, Mr Honey Olawale said the voting exercise had commenced in June this year and it was not in any influenced nor manipulated.

He said, “Those who received the awards merited it in terms of their impacts to the lives of Nigerians and societies at large. This award was not given to anyone on the basis of wealth but positive live influence on others.”

He then urged everyone to be doing good anytime and awards of excellence were presented to those who had won the contest.
